hydration will be key
before
after
Last year, i didnt even think about hydrating during the race. As a result, I suffered and im sure my performance did too. If nothing else I was thinking about how thirsty I was and how much I wanted water. In the boat, i almost stopped to scoop some river water into my mouth, i went through rapids with my mouth open hoping to catch some spray etc. I was thinking about it, if nothing else.
This year, im thinking about it. I'm going to carry a small bottle on the run filled with a Clif/Gatorade type drink. When the bottle is empty, I'll chuck it down. The small bottle filled 5/6 with water weighs 13.9 ounces. So not too bad, less than a pound, which is good.
I bought two Calistoga bottles, then switched their lids (because the big one came with a "sport top" and the small one came with a screw off top.)
Only a $1, and I think it will work well. Also, ill have a hose hooked up to my bike bottle, so i can drink out of the aero position. That will come shortly. The first prototype wasnt as perfect as I wanted.
