2015 was going to do the ironman again. I was really focusing on the run, had gotten a long run up to 12 miles ----- Eppies run course down, then back up. Unfortunately, all of that training ended up injuring the IT Band. Running actually didnt hurt it, biking did. So I gave up.
So I was packing up our house for sale in June and cleaning out the garage, when I came across a box of my old Eppies plaques. And thought, damn it, I want to do this thing, maybe I can put a team together.
I started emailing random people on Facebook and LinkedIN and finally found a fast runner that was interested. I wanted to enter the co-ed division, so began looking for a female cyclist. This proved really challenging, I was asking everyone I knew. Finally, on the Monday before the Great Race Steve Streng found me a girl cyclist who was interested.
Fast forward to race morning, got the boat down on the water really early ~ 5:30am. And hung out chatting with Steve Wilson, Mike Ammon and the rest.
Waiting til race time was one part trying to distract myself and one part anxiety. I didnt put a lot of pressure on myself because I hadn't trained that much leading up to it.
Amanda was like the fifth cyclist off the bike running down the bridge. I took off her ankle chip and took off running to my boat.
I knew I was in first place in my division, so I first wanted to survive any rapids unscathed. After San Juan was done, I settled into a rhythm. I kept looking over my shoulder waiting to see someone, but I never did.
Came across the line in 1:48:25, 1st place co-ed team.
